Thotupola Kanda: A Short Climb to the Third-Highest Peak

Thotupola Kanda (also written Totapolakanda) is Sri Lanka's third-highest mountain at 2,357 m, and one of the easiest high summits to reach. A path of roughly 2 km runs from near the Pattipola entrance of Horton Plains National Park to the top.

The path climbs through wind-shaped montane shrubland, with Strobilanthes, Osbeckia and Rhodomyrtus on the slopes. The summit is exposed and can be cold and windy even on a sunny morning. Local tradition holds that the name means "landing place", where Ravana's aircraft first touched down.

Zugang & Genehmigungen
Inside Horton Plains National Park, run by the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC). A park ticket is required and is bought at the park entrance. We do not print the fee here because we could not confirm the current figure from the DWC itself; check dwc.gov.lk or ask us before you go.
