1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let the site recognise your browser between page loads, remember preferences, keep you signed in, and measure how the site is used. This policy explains the cookies hikelanka.com sets, why each one is there, and how you can control them.
2. How we use them
We group cookies into three categories. Essential cookies are always on because the site cannot function without them. Analytics and Marketing cookies are off by default and only run if you opt in via the cookie banner.

3. Essential cookies (always on)
These are required for core platform functions: signing in, keeping items in your cart, completing checkout, and recording your cookie choice.

4. Analytics cookies (opt-in)
These run only after you accept the Analytics category in the cookie banner. They tell us which trail guides are most useful, which trip pages convert, and where the site is slow. They do not identify you personally.

5. Marketing cookies (opt-in)
Hike Lanka does not currently run advertising-network cookies or cross-site retargeting pixels. The Marketing toggle is provided in the cookie banner so that if we ever introduce a marketing partner, your prior decision is respected by default. Until then, switching this category on has no effect and switching it off changes nothing.
6. Third-party processors
The processors that set or receive cookies on hikelanka.com are listed in our Privacy Policy section 4. The most material ones for cookies are:
- Stripe, US and Ireland, for payment processing and fraud screening.
- Cloudflare and QUIC.cloud, US, for CDN edge caching and DDoS protection.
- Google Analytics 4, US, only when the Analytics category is accepted.
- Hostinger, EU, for web hosting.
- Automattic (WooCommerce), US, for the storefront and order plumbing.
7. Managing your preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the floating shield button at the bottom-right of any page. The button opens the same banner that appeared on your first visit, with your current choices pre-selected. Changes take effect immediately.
Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies via their settings. Blocking essential cookies will prevent the cart, checkout, and signed-in account from working.
