Hike Fitness Calculator

Honest readiness check before you commit to a hike. Returns a fitness score, VO₂ max estimate, and a clear go / improve / not-yet rating.

About you + the hike
What it considers

A fitness score for a specific hike - not a generic body score. Trail length, elevation, and your recent hiking history matter as much as raw BMI or heart rate.

  • Fitness baseline - current activity level + recent hiking
  • VO₂ max estimate - quick cardio proxy from resting HR
  • BMI penalty - modest deduction above 25
  • Hike load - duration + difficulty + elevation gain
  • Medical flag - extra caution if conditions reported

A "not recommended" result is a signal to train up - not a permanent verdict. Many hikers move from beginner to ready inside one season.
