Demodara to Hali Ela
13.15 km · Moderate · 4 hours 30 minutes · Badulla district
Stage 17 traces rarely-visited countryside between Demodara and Hali Ela - a quiet stage through tea fields and small villages with low traffic and few facilities. A good walking-meditation day after the busy stages around Ella.
What you’ll walk through
A gradually ascending concrete trail through tea fields for most of the morning, then descent through plantation areas to Hali Ela. The countryside is the draw - this stage sees less foot traffic than any other on the trail.
Landmarks on this stage
- Demodara Railway Station - The trailhead.
- Demodara Loop - Visible from the early climb.

When to walk
