Bopath Ella: The Bo-Leaf Waterfall
Easy · Ratnapura District · Sabaragamuwa Province

Bopath Ella is named for its shape: the Kuru Ganga squeezes through a narrow gap in the rock and spreads out below into the outline of a Bo (sacred fig) leaf. It drops about 30 m in Agalwatte village, Kuruwita, in one of the wettest parts of the island.
What you’ll walk through
The approach is a short path lined with shops and stalls. Water from the falls irrigates the paddy fields around the village, and the Kuru Ganga flows on to join the Kalu Ganga.
The water level can rise suddenly after rain upstream. Keep off the rocks below the falls when it is high, and do not swim.
