Narangala: Hiking Badulla's Flat-Topped Mountain
Moderate · about 4 hours · Badulla District · Uva Province

Narangala is easy to recognise: a flat, rectangular summit plateau with a triangular peak, above slopes of open grassland. It is a popular overnight camp for Sri Lankan hikers and one of the more approachable climbs in Badulla District.
What you’ll walk through
There are two approaches. Most hikers start on the Keenakele side; the other begins near Thangamale Dewalaya. The upper slopes are open grass with no shade, and the plateau at the top is wide enough to camp on. A return trip with time at the top takes about four hours.
Our sources for Narangala are hiking blogs rather than official records. Quoted heights run from about 1,500 m to 1,527 m. Treat the details as a guide and ask us for current conditions.
