Norwood to Bogawantalawa

Stage 8 climbs steadily through Norwood and Kotiagalla tea estates to the ridge above the Bogawantalawa Valley - known to colonial-era planters as the “Golden Valley of Tea” - then descends gently through the valley to Bogawantalawa town. On clear mornings, Adam’s Peak is visible across the western horizon.
What you’ll walk through
Steady ascent through tea estates for the first half. The ridge section is exposed with little shade - bring a hat and refill water at the Kew Tea Factory. The descent into Bogawantalawa Valley is gentle and the village ends are full of small kade (tea shops).

- Kotiagalla Tea Estate - The estate the trail climbs through to reach the ridge.

- Church of St. Mary - A small Catholic chapel on the ridge.
- Adam's Peak viewpoint - On a clear morning, the conical peak is unmistakeable on the western horizon.
- Bogawantalawa Valley - The "Golden Valley of Tea" - the day's descent corridor.
- Castlereagh Lake - Visible from the higher ridge sections.
When to walk
Adam’s Peak is most visible from this stage in the Dry Season (January-March). The exposed ridge section can be brutal in midday sun - start early.
